Ok, we are in week four of the renovations. While all of the rosepaper and plastic is finally gone, everything is still covered in a fine layer of dust (which has been very non-conducive to cooking of any sort). Hopefully things will get finished up this week. I'd love some time to clean up and organize ourselves before the new year.
Today's bento was a relative quickie. I had actually made it much earlier in the month and am only now getting around to posting it. Anyway, the glass noodle stir-fry is courtesy of my mom. The kim bap was leftover from dinner the night before. The brown-rice kim bap turned out great this time. I marinated the beef in a bit of tamari, sugar and mirin before wok-frying it. The spinach was wok-fried in sesame oil and the shredded carrots were steamed. I didn't put anything into the egg mixture before making an omelet that I sliced into strips. End result was tasty indeed. The only thing I was missing was a bit of takuan, but I didn't have any on hand. Boo hoo!
I also am a big fan of the new bento box -- which I got for a steal ($8) from eBay seller Japan_Souvenir. Usually it goes for $20 or more, but I lucked out big time. I've had my eye on this one for a while because it has a very sturdy carrying handle. The layers do not have sealing lids, so the box is not ideal for carrying liquids (unless you have impeccable balance). Also it's not microwave- or dishwasher-safe.
By the way, the site has finally been indexed by Google. So now the search box in the corner actually works. Wee hoo!
Ok, back to work!
